King of Prussia - Motorists in Montgomery County will encounter lane closures and delays for the widening of the intersection of Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) as part of the Route 202 Parkway construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.
Crews are widening and improving Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) for the new 8.4-mile, $200 million Parkway, which will open this fall to improve travel and ease congestion along the Route 202 Corridor in Montgomery and Bucks counties.
For the next two weeks, Route 63 (Welsh Road) will be restricted to one lane in each direction at the intersection of Route 202 (DeKalb Pike). This round-the-clock restriction will temporarily eliminate turn lanes onto northbound and southbound Route 202 (DeKalb Pike).
The temporary removal of turning lanes on Route 63 (Welsh Road) will slow travel approaching the Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) intersection, especially during the morning and evening rush hours. Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time or use an alternate route.
Construction to widen the intersection also will slow traffic in both directions on Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) approaching Route 63 (Welsh Road) on Monday through Friday (June 18-22) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In addition, the ongoing installation of new traffic signal components will result in periodic lane closures Monday through Friday (June 18-22) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at signalized intersections on:
• Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) between the Five Points intersection and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Montgomery and Lower Gwynedd townships; and
• Route 202 (Doylestown Road/Butler Avenue) between the Five Points intersection and Route 611 in Montgomery, New Britain, Doylestown townships and Chalfont and New Britain boroughs.
Area motorists should anticipate delays and add extra time for travel through the construction areas. All planned activities are contingent on the weather.
