• NIGHT AND WEEKEND LANE CLOSURES ON US 202
Friday, June 04, 2010

King of Prussia – Route 202 motorists will face overnight and weekend-long lane closures next week (June 7-13) when traveling between the Westtown Road and Route 3 interchanges in Westtown and West Goshen townships, Chester County, for road construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

The contractor’s schedule for next week is:

• Monday through Thursday (June 7-10) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., northbound Route 202 will be reduced to one lane between Westtown Road and Route 3 for the saw cutting of deteriorated areas of concrete pavement.

• From 10 p.m. Friday (June 11) to 5 a.m. Sunday (June 13), northbound Route 202 will be reduced to one lane between Westtown Road and Route 3 for the excavation of deteriorated concrete, and the pouring and curing of new concrete patches.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time and use extra care when driving through the construction zone. This work is part of PennDOT’s $19,377,081 project to rehabilitate and improve 4.3 miles of Route 202 between the Route 100 Interchange and High Street in Chester County. The project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Crews will work over the next 18 months to replace deteriorated concrete pavement and resurface the four-lane expressway. They also will reinforce the shoulders; patch and repair eight bridges; paint steel beams on three bridges; remove and replace five overhead sign structures; install new highway signs; install new guide rail and median barrier; and install safety rumble strips and pavement reflectors.

Starting next weekend, crews will remove and replace deteriorated sections of Route 202’s old concrete pavement. Travel lanes will reopen each weekend after the concrete patches have cured to their required strength. Weekend-long construction activity on Route 202 will continue throughout this year and 2011, except during cold-weather months.

The bridges along Route 202 that are scheduled for repair under this project include the Fernhill Road bridge over Route 202, and the Route 202 bridges over High Street, Bolmar Street, Westtown Road, Route 3, Paoli Pike, and the dual structures carrying Route 202 over the ramp to Route 322.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the federally-funded contract. The project is scheduled to finish in Dec. 2011.
