• OVERNIGHT STOPPAGES ON US 202 NEAR PA 29
Tuesday, May 19, 2009

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – Route 202 will be reduced to one lane in each direction and periodic stoppages will occur at night next week for demolition of the center section of the Route 29 bridge over the highway in East Whiteland Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Northbound and southbound lane closures will be in place Monday through Thursday (May 18-21) from 10 p.m. each evening until 5 a.m. the following morning at the Route 29 Interchange. Periodic full stoppages of up to 15 minutes also may occur each evening as crews remove sections of the old bridge.

PennDOT’s contractor completed construction of the northern one-third of the new overpass earlier this month and shifted its operations to the center section. The bridge is being replaced in three stages so that four lanes of traffic may be maintained on Route 29 at the busy interchange.

All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Flagger-controlled lane restrictions also may occur on Swedesford Road, located just north of Route 29, and on Cedar Hollow Road at the new bridge over Route 202, located at the northern end of the interchange. Flaggers may be in place Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at both work areas.

The structures are among seven bridges over Route 202 being replaced or modified to make room for a future improvement of the expressway between North Valley Road in Tredyffrin Township and the Route 30 Bypass Interchange in East Whiteland Township.
