• WEEKEND AND WEEKNIGHT LANE CLOSURES ON US 202
Friday, June 18, 2010

King of Prussia – Motorists will face weekend and weeknight lane closures when traveling on Route 202 between the Westtown Road and Route 3 interchanges in Chester County for the replacement of deteriorated concrete pavement, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

The contractor’s schedule is:

• From 10 p.m. tonight (June 18) to 5 a.m. Sunday (June 20), northbound and southbound Route 202 will be reduced to one lane between Westtown Road and Route 3 to excavate deteriorated concrete, and for the pouring and curing of new concrete patches;

• Wednesday and Thursday (June 23-24) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. southbound Route 202 will be reduced to one lane between Route 3 and Westtown Road for saw cutting deteriorated concrete pavement;

• From 10 p.m. Friday, June 25 to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 27, southbound Route 202 will be reduced to one lane from Route 3 to Westtown Road to remove deteriorated concrete, pour new concrete patches and allow the concrete to cure.

Drivers should allow more time for travel and exercise care when driving through the construction zones. In addition to lane closures, motorists also will encounter shoulder closures next week between Matlack Street and the ramps at end of the expressway.

This work is part of PennDOT’s $19,377,081 project to rehabilitate and improve 4.3 miles of Route 202 between the Route 100 Interchange and High Street in Chester County. The project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Crews are replacing deteriorated concrete pavement in advance of resurfacing the four-lane expressway. They also will reinforce the shoulders; patch and repair eight bridges; paint steel beams on three bridges; remove and replace five overhead sign structures; install new highway signs; install new guide rail and median barrier; and install safety rumble strips and pavement reflectors.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the federally-funded project, which is scheduled to finish in Dec. 2011.
