U.S. 202 SOUTH OVERNIGHT LANE RESTRICTIONS SCHEDULED FOR CONSTRUCTION IN CHESTER COUNTY
King of Prussia, PA – Lane restrictions will be in place this Friday night on southbound U.S. 202 in Chester County, for work to shorten the construction area at the southbound U.S. 202 exit ramp to U.S. 30 and Business U.S. 30, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. Southbound U.S. 202 will be reduced from three-lanes-to-two from 8:00 PM Friday, August 25, to 10:00 AM Saturday, August 26, between the Route 401 and Boot Road interchanges, as crews remove the construction barrier from the section of the work area immediately west of where the single lane ramp exits southbound U.S. 202. The shortening of the work area is expected to help reduce congestion approaching the interchange by allowing vehicles exiting southbound U.S. 202 to access the ramps to U.S. 30 Business or the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass more quickly. Construction that began last spring to replace deteriorated concrete pavement at the interchange has effectively reduced the ramp to one lane instead of two where it exits southbound U.S. 202. Under the traffic pattern implemented at the start of construction, the work zone’s concrete barrier had extended along the ramp, moving the point of access to the ramp to the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass some 500 feet west of where the ramp exits U.S. 202. Work is currently underway at the ramp to temporarily remove the sound wall panels along a section of the ramp in order to replace the deteriorated concrete slabs that support the panels. PennDOT is removing and replacing the deteriorated concrete from the right lane and shoulder on southbound U.S. 202 from south of the Planebrook Road bridge to the U.S. 30 and Business U.S. 30 Interchange. When completed later this year, traffic will shift to the rebuilt side of the ramp, and concrete replacement will begin on the left lane for much of 2018. The pavement replacement operation is part of a $26.4 million project to complete the final phase of the U.S. 202 Section 300 improvement project, including the rehabilitation of two bridges over Amtrak rail lines in East and West Whiteland, Chester County. Motorists are advised that backups still may occur on southbound U.S. 202 approaching the U.S. 30 Interchange during peak travel times. Drivers heading to the U.S. 30 and Business U.S. 30 Interchange are advised to remain in the right lane on southbound U.S. 202 approaching the interchange, leaving the center and left lane for motorists continuing south on U.S. 202.
